What are the advantages of a TAM?

TAM is manufactured using renewable, carbon capturing materials that minimise their environmental footprint.

Low energy costs as well as CO2 emissions. TAM uses 90% less energy to heat and light. In one simple move, we eradicate fuel poverty.

TAM is cool in summer and warm in winter. It is intelligent in operation as well as design; it reduces environmental impact simply and effectively without compromising how people choose to live their lives.

Provide a straight forward and practical way to live, that does not cost the earth.

How can I buy/rent/lease one?

How long do they last for?

The TAM is built in the same way they build homes and has a minimum 60 year design life.

Can I move them?

What is a TAM made of?

TAM is made using carbon sequestering straw and timber.

What are the advantages of using straw?

Straw sequesters CO2 by the process of photosysnthesis:
Photosynthesis, plants absorb CO2 from the atmosphere. They use the carbon to make cellulose and return the oxygen to atmosphere. Photosynthesis is bio-evolved, solar powered carbon capture. By product - oxygen. TAM is built with carbon. A 1 bed TAM unit sequester around 20,000 kg of CO2. As a result the TAM is a truly less than zero carbon building, which is good for the environment.

The TAM is a breathable building. It has been shown that a breathable building, that has low VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds) and uses natural materails helps with our health and wellbeing.

Is there enough straw?

UK farming produces 12 million tonnes of straw each year. 6 million tonnes is ploughed back into the soil. 3 million tonnes is used for animal bedding and 3 million tonnes of straw is buffered into barns. A typical 1 bedroom TAM uses 5 tonnes of straw.
There is enough UK straw to build 600,000 TAMs, 3.5 times the size of the current UK housing market. The global harvest of straw is 607 million tonnes

Standards?

The TAM is built to the same standards required of any conventional home built in the UK. The systems components have been rigorously tested.

Do I need planning?

Not necessarily. Under the Caravan Act it is not required to have planning to use a TAM. This is dependant on a number of factors. Contact us for more information 01179 556731 enquiries(at)tamhaus.com

Why the Caravan Act?

The Caravan Act allows for the provision of a category of housing known as caravan housing. The Caravan Act has three tests:
Construction Test:
There should be two sections separately constructed. The act of joining the two sections together should be the final act of assembly.
Mobility Test:
It is not necessary for a caravan to be towed, only that it is capable of being moved by road.
It must be able to be moved without structural damage.
Size Test:
The overall size can be no larger than 20 x 6.8m.
Internal floor to ceiling height can be no more than 3.05m.
TAM meets all these tests. However, TAM is not a caravan, instead, it is built in the same way we build homes and has a minimum 60 year design life.
